In October 1998 the EC-US S&T Co-operations Agreement entered into force. The Agreement is designed to encourage, develop and facilitate cooperative activities in fields of common interest involving research and development activities in science and technology. This co-operation has specifically included food safety, especially microbial food poisoning. As a direct response to these policy objectives the EUUS-SAFEFOOD proposal aims to promote contact and collaboration between EU and US scientists, selected on the basis of internationally recognised expertise in specific areas of the microbiological safety of foods, by the provision of funded opportunities for EU scientists to :
EUUS-SAFEFOOD will also promote the international
integration of research on microbiological food safety by initiating a
“virtual transatlantic network” of developing networks of food-borne
zoonoses in both Europe and the US. |
