The control and prevention of food-borne diseases is dependant on a number of factors including local regulations and food-animal production system. Biosecurity is generally the initial approach but require detailed knowledge of sources of infection and is heavily dependant on animal management practices. Additional or even alternative pre-harvest strategies, like vaccination, probiotics, or competitive exclusion may be feasible but require considerable understanding of the host-microbe interaction and are time and resource intensive.
