An opportunity for European scientists working in the area of microbial food safety to visit US laboratories. The Expert Scientific Exchange programme invites up to
20 European foodborne safety scientists from throughout Europe to apply
for travel grants to visit research laboratories in the US and Canada in
order to ensure technology transfer, and promote collaboration of
expertise sharing. The selection of candidates will be based on joint
expressed interest between the Med-Vet-Net and FSSRN networks. The
programme covers the areas: ‘Epidemiology and risk attribution’,
‘microbial ecology’, ‘detection’ and ‘control and intervention’. Exchange Reports Manal AbuOun (VLA , UK ) visited the Pennsylvania State University, State College USA, 27 August - 21 September 2007. Purpose: Development Salmonella metabolic network model using the current E.coli model (iAF1260) (download pdf) Berith Kummerfeldt (DTU, Denmark) visited the
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), USA, 19 February - 2
March 2007. Purpose: Training in PFGE and MLVA typing methods. Karen Elvers (University of Bristol, UK) visited
the Richard B. Russell Research Centre, Athens, GA and the American
Society for Microbiology 107th General Meeting, Toronto. Antonio Vieira (DTU, Denmark) visited the college
of Public Health, University of Georgia, Athens, GA and the Division of
Foodborne, Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases, CDC, Atlanta, GA, USA, 22
October - 2 November 2007.
